Out-of-State Drunk Driving Defendant Pleas by Mail Without Jail Time

Our law office was contacted by a resident of a west coast state. He was visiting family in Jackson County, Michigan many years ago, and was arrested for drunk driving. He regrettably left the state without addressing the OWI charge, and had a warrant out for his arrest for years. When applying for a new job, he was reminded that the charge was still outstanding, and contacted our firm to assist him with resolving the case. Through extensive negotiation with the prosecutor's office and the assigned judge, he was allowed to plea by mail to fines and costs, thereby avoiding any jail time or personal appearance to address the outstanding warrant.
